Browser process failure in 4.2.0

Post by suzy »

BriskBard occasionally reports a Browser process failure. Clicking on the OK button, another pops up, and so I keep clicking until no more appear. At that point I close the browser and start again. In the images below I was on media player tab when it happened but it can occur at any time, and I have not observed a pattern. This particular instance there aren't that many open tabs and there is plenty of free memory. In the Task Manager there are only a few BriskBard proccesses and there are no Microsoft Edge WebView2 processes to be found anywhere. It's like every open tab has failed?

Random crashes like this are a problem and while I just restart BriskBard and move on, they prevent me recommending it to anyone else.

EDIT: it just happened again, and as I suspected the number of times I needed to click OK to dismiss the failure message was equal to the number of tabs that were open.

ANOTHER EDIT: Third time today, while doing nothing special with even less tabs open this time just moving the mouse over the window in Facebook Messenger, added another pic at the end.

These issues might be the cause :
https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/4602
https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/4623

I'll look into it. Thanks!

Thank you and good luck!

If there's more information I can provide, or if you need someone to use a test version of BriskBard to try and reproduce the problem and gather more details, let me know.

Thank you for your help! :)

As a temporal workaround, open the configuration window, select the General tab and set Browser process error to Ignore.

I have set that option to Ignore and will see what difference it makes.

Sorry, but that setting is not a workaround. When it is turned on, BriskBard can still fail randomly, but now with no warning and so instead of a pop-up, each tab becomes white, and the browser is unresponsive and needs restarting.

Here is one particular time it happened, with very few tabs and BriskBard had only been open for about a quarter of an hour.

I was hoping this was just an unresponsive render process that becomes responsive after a while but I see that this is more serious. :(

I'll try to reproduce this issue in the web pages that I can identify in your screenshot.

Please, let me know if you find any other web page where I can reproduce this issue.

An update. I don't know if anything has changed behind the scenes with WebView2, but lately BriskBard has been working well.

Process errors have not been happening. So, unless I post again, you can assume that the problem has resolved itself.
