What is a media player?

An media player is a software application mainly used to play music, watch movies and play other multimedia files.

All players share the same set of buttons to control the media files : ▸, ◼, ⏩, ⏪ and other controls inherited from cassette players.

Usually these players can also open play list files that allow them to play multiple media files without user intervention. It's not unusual to find wave visualizers, spectrums and VUmeters for audio files.
